Rejuvenate with natural antioxidants

 

Is the elixir of youth closer than we imagine? Aging symptoms such as gray hair, wrinkles in the skin, gradual memory impairment as well a lot of diseases have the same cause as it is recently discovered by scientists, and these are no more than free radicals of oxygen. Nevertheless anti-aging is as close as ever. This is thanks to a new generation of nutrients in the diet, the so-called anti-oxidants. And thankfully Greece is full of these ingredients: Olive oil and tomatoes, tea and red wine, citrus,  berries, olives and onions, avocado, bananas and almonds, rice and rye are only a part of the foods that contain antioxidant vitamins, minerals or flavonoids, etc.

So what exactly do antioxidants do and how they help us get rid of the dreaded action of free radicals?

First, let's say where the free radicals of oxygen come from.... oxygen free radical, means an oxygen atom within human blood with fewer or more electrons, which because cannot exist free, it clings in healthy cells, causing the damage. In addition to the normal cellular process, other factors that help to create free radicals of oxygen are the body's exposure to excessive contamination, solar radiation, cigarette smoke and anxiety. Here comes the oxidative stress. When there are more oxygen free radicals in the body than antioxidants, the oxygen radicals are free to cause damage to healthy cells.

Antioxidants help us limit the action of free radicals of oxygen in our blood, substances particularly harmful to cell function.

If we ignore the free radicals without taking any drastic measures, we let them to steal healthy elements from every cell they meet. This can burden our body's ability to stay healthy. The result is that they destroy the cells, contributing to the poor progression of health and the emergence of chronic diseases such as heart disease or forms of cancer.

The role of antioxidants is to deactivate free radicals by blocking their catastrophic effects.

Therefore, maintaining the balance between antioxidants and free radicals is a fundamental factor in maintaining our good health.

ANTIOXIDANTS

And now to the point! How shall we strengthen our table and our surrounding, as well as our concerns, with the substances that will help us to overcome old age?

Olive oil and tomatoes, grapes, tea and red wine, mango and berries, olives and onions, avocado, bananas and almonds, rice and rye are only some of the foods that contain antioxidant vitamins.

Vitamins: Are the "Key" element with intense antioxidant activity are vitamins A, C and E.

Gymnastics: It's not only the food that creates antioxidants but also our moves. So keep yourself in shape. Adopt easy and painless changes in your everyday life: Stairs instead of an elevator and finally "sell" the TV for a relaxing walk. Start with small steps and gradually shape your own fitness program.

Healthy diet: We suggest a way to consume antioxidants all day: Incorporate the use of antioxidants in your daily diet. Try tea for breakfast, add whole grain bread and fresh fruit, or an orange juice, do not omit the salad with olive oil and in the afternoon you have to prefer fruit for the snack. Finally, add some vegetables to the dinner. In your pasta dishes, it's better to prefer tomato sauce instead of bolognese.

Olive Oil: The main ingredient of Greek food, olive oil constitutes the main weapon against free radicals. Unfortunately, it has been "officially" abolished by all Greek restaurants, because it is accused of failing to fry well. (I would suggest that the fool who has said it must be hung from the olive tree). Our famous oil, as it is rich in flavonoids, polyphenols, vitamins E and A, is the main source of antioxidant ingredients. Use it raw or even in cooking, even in frying. Its taste in food is unique!

“Zarzavatika”: The secret Greek diet for everyone who does not want to grow old. These vegetables are not only add flavor to the salad, but they are full of antioxidants and vitamin C as well. Serve them raw or grilled, plain or stuffed, or as you prefer. Particularly rich in antioxidants (flavonoids) are herbs such as lavender, parsley and fennel. The elixir of juvenileness is next to us and we have not understood it yet

I want something to drink! : Drink large amount of antioxidant-rich beverages to ensure to your body the necessary moisture and antioxidants. The juices of fruits, as apple, peach, grapefruit or orange, tomato juice or other vegetable juices, tea and red wine contain antioxidants. A combination of juices with fruits and vegetables, gives the body the necessary levels of fluid for its proper function.

Catechins: Catechins are antioxidants one can find in wine and tea. They are released as soon as the leaves of tea come into contact with the boiling water. Enjoy tea regularly during the day to increase the amount of antioxidants in your diet. Don't forget that a glass of red wine is also good for you.

Lycopene: It gives the firm color to tomatoes. A carotenoid with strong antioxidant action, also involved in the healthy, rich in fruits and vegetables  Mediterranean diet, in which tomato holds a prominent position! Lycopene has the ability not to be destroyed by boiling and condensation.

Nuts: They are particularly nutritious and so delicious! Particularly peanuts are among the richest sources of antioxidants. Remember that fresh fruits contain even more antioxidants
